Social Justice Advocacy

Vision: Human rights are respected, protected, and fulfilled for all individuals and communities.

You will find close links between social justice and human rights. While you cannot have a socially just society without human rights, they are slightly different. Human rights dictate the bare minimum for everyone, while social justice is about equity and equality. In another form, when a society is just, it protects and respects everyone’s human rights. When a society respects and promotes human rights, social justice flourishes. A society that upholds everyone’s human rights is not necessarily embracing social justice at the same time. Therefore, WRO will focus on social justice advocacy and will focus on the following four pillars of social justice such as human rights, access, participation, and equity. WRO believes that social justice can’t be achieved without these four pillars mentioned above.

Areas of focus

Peace-building and economic development

Contribute to good governance, democracy, and peace by supporting and strengthening the trust between the government and citizens. Participate in the development of local governance structures in Somaliland and promote the deepening of democracy, decentralization, and rural development as principles of inclusive and accountable political capacity particulary youth and women.

Advocacy for social cohesion and human rights

Advocacy for social cohesion and human rights is about promoting a society where everyone feels a sense of belonging, and their fundamental rights are respected and protected. It involves actively working to create a more inclusive, just, and harmonious community.

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)  of the 2030 Agenda are explicitly grounded in social cohesion and human rights. Moreover, the pledge to leave no one behind reflects the fundamental human rights principles of non-discrimination and equality
